Disclaimer: I love dosas and that's all I eat here. I'm a sucker for a good dosa and they are surprisingly hard to find. I remember ordering something else once, I think it was good, but all I remember is the dosa. I can't get dosas near where I live so whenever I am in the area I stop in and get one of these. It's a little bundle of heaven. My comfort food. The atmosphere feels a bit... almost industrial, or as someone else said "cafeteria style." It is a bit awkward to go through the grocery store to get to the outdoor dining area. It can be loud and crowded inside. Still, the service is relatively fast and dosas. Did I mention they have good dosas? Honestly not the best I've ever had, but reliably good. And that merits 5 stars according to my belly. :)

Kati panner roll is simply amazing. The taste is just like Kati rolls from India. The place is always crowded as there are hardly any Indian restaurants in this area. Overall the experience is good.

I've been happily dining and shopping at Vik's for decades. Vik's is both an Indisn Grocery as well as one of the best casual Indian food restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area. You'll find yummy dishes like Masala Dosa's Koliwada Fish, Keema Samosa, Lamb Korma and an incredible selection of Indian Sweets. After you had a delicious meal in the dining room you can peruse fresh spices and achars in their market. Indian Mangoes anyone? Vik's is literally a dream! It transports me back to India every time. What's with all the reviews complaining about the menu price points?! It's the SF Bay Area! Restaurants aren't cheap anymore anywhere. The minimum wage is at least $20 an hour and rent is high. Businesses are in it for a profit, not a loss and they've got to pay their employees and give them benefits. If you want cheap get an Air India coach ticket and fly 16 hours to Delhi and get your cheap food on.

Heard so many recommendations to come here and finally decided to give it a try. It did not disappoint!!! I was a bit intimated at first since I didn't know much about authentic Indian dishes, but the cashier practically ordered everything for us and it was absolutely amazing. The place is more of a cafeteria takeout style where you order in the front and pick up your food while grabbing your own table. However, we didn't mind it and liked how quick of a service everything was. Definitely recommend for a quick lunch break. My personal favorites Dahi Bhatata Puri and the Cholle Bhature! The Dahi Batata Puri was a must-get, a cold savory dish with a bit of crunchiness. The Cholle Bhature is like a huge fried piece of bread that is so fluffy and dipped with different savory sauces. The Chicken Biryani was also good but had a kick to it. I would definitely want to come back for a lamb date, and wish they offered more meat options throughout the week.

This definitely feels like, if you know you know place. Overall thoroughly enjoyed our experience here! The food was tasty, large portions and the place was packed. There's a lot on the menu, but I'm glad we came on the weekend for their specials. Everything was flavorful and we came out stuffed. Just beware of some items. We weren't expecting the vegetarian curry to be so spicy, but we still loved it! Along with our meal we tried a dessert and ordered a solid mango lassi and chai! Very loud, lively and open seated place! Once you're done you can go check out the fun grocery items they have in store. Hope to come back here again for a delicious meal!

You know that feeling when you enter a room, and you feel like you're the only one who has no idea what's going? That's how I felt stepping into Vik's Chaat. What I mean is, I had not read the reviews and had no idea that a super market was the first frontier that eventually led to a large food court area where you could actually dine in. Anywho, after venturing through the market, I was met with a spacious dining area that reminded me a lot of a high school lunch room. Nothing impressive, but at least it was big and fairly clean. So...you first go straight to the order area (I went for a lunch special), and then wait for them to call your name. The lunch special comes with Basmati rice, Chappati, Dal, Raita, Papadam, and Achar. You choose your protein, but some cost more than others. I got the Tandoori Chicken. I liked the texture and subtle butteriness of the basmati rice, the softness of the chappati, the savory and wholesome notes of the dal, the tanginess and cleanness of the raita, and the smokey sweetness of the achar. I did think the portions were kinda small, but the flavors were on point. For three pieces of tandoori chicken and these sides...the price was okay ($20ish), considering that they don't ask for tip and have their own, huge parking lot (balances out). The tandoori chicken itself was seasoned perfectly but could've been more tender.

Delicious. My favorite Indian restaurant in Berkeley. I love taking my friends here and seeing their faces when they take their first bites -- pure happiness! The restaurant is attached to a small grocery store. There is plenty of indoor seating and outdoor seating by the parking lot area. You order first, pay, then grab a seat. They will call your name when your order is ready for pick up at one of the counters by the kitchen. The process is efficient but don't leave a common name if you don't want to get your food mixed up with someone else's! Michaels get called a lot here for some reason.. My favorites are the cholle bhature, vik's cheese dosa, biryani, and spicy eggplant thali. Though the eggplant could be spicier.
